THE \u00a0Anglesea Roo Run marked its tenth anniversary on Wednesday night, showcasing strength and community spirit.<\/p>\n
Organiser Mick Collins said it was the biggest and best event ever.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was our biggest event ever; it ended up being a sell-out.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe sold out of t-shirts, we sold out of medals, our BBQ sold out, everything sold out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Collins said not to worry, though, they had ordered more medals for everyone that missed out.<\/p>\n
Mr. Collins believed the recent bad weather motivated the larger crowds to attend.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had beautiful conditions, it was a little bit foggy with a bit of sea mist but fined up right on race time.\u201d<\/p>\n
He noted the high humidity and the changing tide posed challenges, particularly during the swim around Sophie\u2019s Rock.<\/p>\n
This annual event, a collaboration between the Anglesea Motor Yacht Club (AMYC) and Surf Coast Trail Runners, is a highlight of the local sporting and social calendar.<\/p>\n
This year’s race unfolded with several thrilling events.<\/p>\n
Alex Harrison led the women’s category in the Great Ocean Road Real Estate 8km Roo Run with a time of 29:52, followed by Toby Menday winning the men’s at 24:31.<\/p>\n
In the 4km event, Skye and Jack Ellis emerged as triumphant.<\/p>\n
The A-Z Plumbing 2XRoo challenge saw Kristin Watkins and Paul Corkill take out first place.<\/p>\n
The Grommets Gallop was won by Frankie Hyde and Finn Vague.<\/p>\n
The Roo Run also significantly contributes to local organisations such as the Anglesea Primary School and Men’s Shed.<\/p>\n
Winding through Anglesea’s picturesque back beach, coastal trails, and river walk, the course attracted a diverse group of participants,<\/p>\n
This year’s Roo Run not only highlighted athletic excellence but also reinforced the strong community spirit in Anglesea, promising many more years of this beloved event.<\/p>\n
Mr Collins said Attendees unanimously praised it as the best yet, citing the excellent community atmosphere and the prevailing holiday spirit.<\/p>\n
