{"id":79887,"date":"2024-01-02T15:00:13","date_gmt":"2024-01-02T04:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/women-in-community-life-awards-nominations-open\/"},"modified":"2024-01-02T16:57:57","modified_gmt":"2024-01-02T05:57:57","slug":"women-in-community-life-awards-nominations-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/women-in-community-life-awards-nominations-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Women in community life awards nominations open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong 2024 Women in Community Life Awards are now open for nominations.<\/p>\n<p>These annual awards celebrate the significant contributions of women to the Greater Geelong community, particularly their efforts to advance and champion gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Trent Sullivan said that the contribution of women is often underestimated and encouraged people to nominate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage you to consider women you know who have contributed positively to our community and consider nominating them for an award,\u201d Cr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n<p>The awards will be presented as part of the City\u2019s International Women\u2019s Day celebrations on Friday 8 March 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The UN Women global theme for International Women\u2019s Day 2024 is Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese awards form part of a number of awards programs hosted by the Council to target under-represented groups to ensure we equitably recognise and celebrate everyone\u2019s contributions,\u201d Cr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGender equity is one of the Council\u2019s five health and wellbeing priorities as laid out in our Community Plan and acknowledges the critical work of women and girls in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chair of the women in community life advisory committee Cr Melissa Cadwell said the awards provide the opportunity to recognise women who are often unsung.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to hear about women you know, from the quiet volunteer to the inspiring leader, who are working for an equal society in our Greater Geelong community,\u201d Cr Cadwell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSharing the accomplishments and stories of women allows us to thank them for their contributions and helps to inspire other women and future generations \u2013 after all \u2018you can\u2019t be, what you can\u2019t see.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award nominations are open across seven categories:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for Economic Empowerment \u2013 sponsored by Women\u2019s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West<\/li>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for a First Nations Woman \u2013 sponsored by Parliamentary Secretary for First Peoples &amp; Member for Geelong, Christine Couzens MP<\/li>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for Disability Rights \u2013 sponsored by Barwon Health<\/li>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for Leadership in Women\u2019s Health \u2013 sponsored by GMHBA<\/li>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for Climate Action \u2013 sponsored by Member for Bellarine, Alison Marchant<\/li>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for Human Rights \u2013 sponsored by Zonta Club of Geelong<\/li>\n<li>Women in Community Life Award for Education \u2013 sponsored by Soroptimist International of Geelong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nominations close at 5:00pm on Monday 5 February 2024 and will be assessed by a selection panel.<\/p>\n<p>For more information visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geelongaustralia.com.au\/wiclawards\/article\/item\/8d32badbf2a16f4.aspx\">Women in Community Life Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong 2024 Women in Community Life Awards are now open for nominations.
