A FAMILIAR face at Barwon Heads Football Club will take over the reins as head coach of the female football program in 2024.<\/p>\n
Seagulls stalwart and member of the club’s 1993 premiership side Adam Fry will take on the role of head coach this season as Barwon Heads hopes to make its return to the Division 1 finals.<\/p>\n
He boasts more than 10 years of junior coaching at Barwon Heads, including back-to-back premierships with the club’s Under 18 girls side.<\/p>\n
“I have an exciting vision and game plan for the Senior Womens team and look forward to teaching the players not only to be better footballers, but to grow together as a team,” Fry said following the club’s announcement.<\/p>\n
Barwon Heads was held to the middle of Division 1 in 2022, finishing the season with an average five win, seven loss record.<\/p>\n
The Seagulls shocked the division in Week 1 of the finals, outkicking St Mary’s in the Elimination Final 4.9.33 to 3.3.21 to earn a spot in the Preliminary Final the following week.<\/p>\n
However, Barwon Heads’ push for a grand final berth would end at the hands of a dominant Grovedale side, managing a lone major in the 6.15.51 to 1.4.10 loss to the Tigers at Mount Moriac Reserve.<\/p>\n
Fry, born and raised in Ocean Grove, will hope to help the club’s continued rise in AFL Barwon’s top female division.<\/p>\n
“It is with great excitement we announce Adam ‘Frysie’ Fry as head coach for the Senior Women’s team,” the club’s women’s program stated.<\/p>\n
“We are privileged to have Frysie’s expertise as a coach, umpire and past player to guide our Women’s teams through another exciting season.<\/p>\n
“Frysie is super passionate about women’s football and joins the BHFNC coaching group again after 10-plus successful years coaching junior football at the club.”<\/p>\n
AFL Barwon’s Senior Female Football competitions are slated to start this year on April 5.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
