BARWON Coast has appointed Gareth Smith as their new CEO.<\/p>\n
Gareth, previously serving as the director of city planning and economy at the City of Greater Geelong, brings extensive experience to the role.<\/p>\n
Barwon Coast Committee of Management Chair Sandra Gatehouse said they are excited to welcome Gareth to the CEO role.<\/p>\n
“The Committee is confident that Gareth’s exemplary skill set, strategic leadership approach and deep knowledge of the environment and industry will position him extremely well to excel at Barwon Coast Committee of Management.”<\/p>\n
In a statement, Barwon Coast highlighted Gareth’s leadership qualities and his knack for fostering positive relationships with government and industry stakeholders<\/p>\n
“He brings a deep knowledge of the regulatory environment in which Barwon Coast operates, having successfully led a previous committee of management in South Australia,” the statement read.<\/p>\n
“Importantly, Gareth is an active member of the local community and understands the immediate and long-term challenges facing Barwon Coast in environmental matters, climate change, infrastructure management and planning as well as population and visitation growth.”<\/p>\n
Gareth’s appointment follows the retirement of Gary McPike, who has been at the helm of the Barwon Coast Committee of Management since April 2015.<\/p>\n
Gary is celebrated for his numerous achievements, including strengthening ties with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Aboriginal Corporation and overseeing significant land transfers and structural enhancements at Barwon Coast.<\/p>\n
Ms Gatehouse commended McPike for his impactful tenure.<\/p>\n
“From successfully leading the organisation through a global pandemic, to his passionate advocacy and consistent focus on caring for the coast, Gary’s impact on Barwon Coast has been significant and his work will leave positive legacy for our coastline.”<\/p>\n
Under Gary’s leadership, Barwon Coast saw the development of the Coastal and Marine Management Plan, the construction of the Ocean Grove Surf Beach complex, and the creation of the 13th Beach Shared Trail.<\/p>\n
With Gareth at the helm, Barwon Coast is poised for a new chapter, focusing on environmental stewardship, infrastructure management, and adapting to the challenges of climate change and regional growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
