POINT Lonsdale Boardriders Club will celebrate the successes of the last six decades at a 60-year anniversary event this March.<\/p>\n

The local surfing club will gather on March 2 and 3 at its clubhouse facility to recount special stories and showcase legendary memorabilia from its fabled history.<\/p>\n

The event will feature a surf wear and surfboard muster, a Q and A with prestigious members from each decade and live music and entertainment.<\/p>\n

Point Lonsdale Boardriders Club is regarded as the second oldest active surfing boardriding club in Australia.<\/p>\n

Since 1964, the club has been a mainstay in the Victorian Teams Titles format, opened a formal clubhouse facility and founded the Lighthouse Party music festival.<\/p>\n

Club president Max Lazarus said there would be plenty to celebrate at the reunion.<\/p>\n

“It’s really exciting to be notching up 60 years of this iconic club,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got plenty of exciting things planned for the weekend and special touches from each decade to reference its importance to our history.<\/p>\n

“We plan to have special kombis and old cars at the muster which will fit in really well with the old surf wear muster. It’ll provide a great photo opportunity.<\/p>\n

“The function will feature some of club stalwarts speaking, as well as live music and a special DJ who will run through the music that defined each decade.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got people spread all over Australia, so it will be great to get them all together to share this great feat.” Mr Lazarus said the club is also exploring the possibility of running a normal club round aggregate over the weekend to showcase the club to older members.<\/p>\n

“It would be really cool to showcase what we are up to out in the water and how bright the future is for some of our surfers,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The success of the groms program is something else we are really proud of, and something we will highlight at some point whether it’s on the surfing day or during the functions.”<\/p>\n
