BARWON Heads Football Netball Club will take on an important role at next week’s Vic Open golf tournament, but the club needs extra hands to cope with the influx of visitors.<\/p>\n
The club celebrated a decade of support in 2023 and is gearing up for a successful 11th year of volunteering, as thousands of golf fans descend on 13th Beach Golf Club from next Thursday (February 1-4).<\/p>\n
Newly-appointed Seagulls president Russell Hyland said the club takes great pride in running the volunteers for the annual tournament.<\/p>\n
“We have a lot of people at the club that look forward to this time of the year.<\/p>\n
“Club member and volunteer co-ordinator Jerome Fahey is the big driver each year and he’s done a fantastic job over the years, but it’s something club members of all walks of take part in whether it’s an 18-year-old netballer or an 80-year-old who has been at the club for 40 years.<\/p>\n
“But it’s also not just for Seagulls, we invite anybody from the Barwon Heads community to lend a hand for one of our town’s biggest events.”<\/p>\n
The club will run volunteer shifts from Thursday to Sunday from 5.30am to 7pm on all four days with shifts lasting from one and a half hours to three hours.<\/p>\n
Volunteers can either drive shuttle buses or direct patrons at each of the three carparks.<\/p>\n
“It’s more heartfelt that a club like ours does play a role in the Vic Open,” Mr Hyland said.<\/p>\n
“We’re pretty much selling and advertising our own backyard to out-of-town visitors and welcoming visitors down to the area.<\/p>\n
“The most important thing is making sure they’re looked after and only leave Barwon Heads with a positive and memorable experience.”<\/p>\n
