OCEAN Grove and Barwon Valley Men’s Sheds have received grants from the federal government, aimed at enhancing support for men’s health and wellbeing within the community.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Libby Coker said the sheds played a pivotal role in fostering community spirit.<\/p>\n
“Men’s Sheds are helping men and boys find mateship and social support to help them stay mentally and physically healthy.<\/p>\n
“These grants are going towards some fantastic projects that will enable local Men’s Sheds to continue to play a valuable role in improving health and wellbeing, but most importantly they play a part in countering the isolation which some men in our community experience.”<\/p>\n
The funding will be used for projects that improve the facilities and services offered by the Sheds.<\/p>\n
Ocean Grove and District Men’s Shed will use its $2,250 grant for First Aid Training, while Barwon Valley Woodwrights received $3,100 for new equipment including a bandsaw, drill press, and benchtop.<\/p>\n
Ocean Grove secretary and co-ordinator Bruce Ward said the funding was vital.<\/p>\n
“This funding is crucial for maintaining safety by ensuring a first aid-trained individual is present at every session.<\/p>\n
“As the only shed in the area open five days a week, it enables us to have a sufficient number of trained officers to support our members.”<\/p>\n
Mr Ward said all members of the public were welcome to visit the Ocean Grove shed any weekday morning to see if it is suited to their needs.<\/p>\n
“We provide men opportunity for more social connectedness self esteem and alternatives to work when they finish working.”<\/p>\n
The government has distributed funds to 89 Men’s Sheds across the country, totalling more than $500,000.<\/p>\n
These grants, which can reach up to $10,000, will be used for facility upgrades, tool and equipment purchases, health-related training coordination, and the organization of men’s health events.<\/p>\n
Another 40 Sheds will receive funds exceeding $82,000 in total for defibrillators.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
