ST LEONARDS-Indented Heads Fire Brigade have welcomed the community into their new station with an open day.<\/p>\n

Brigade members showed the public through the new facility, including looking through the trucks.<\/p>\n

First Lieutenant Clark Maronian said the community was impressed with the new facility during the January 27 event.<\/p>\n

“The kids loved the fire trucks and to climb up and have a go at the hose, it was overwhelmingly positive feedback.”<\/p>\n

“For the brigade, it’s been a really exciting thing for us, it’s been about 20 years in the making, from when the first idea came through to now, when\u00a0it’s complete.”<\/p>\n

Turn out rooms are accessible directly from the car park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Volunteers now have improved facilities to better serve the community, containing a three-bay vehicle station, external shed, turn out rooms that can be accessed directly through the car\u00a0park, and modern technology including doorbell intercoms.<\/p>\n

Gender-neutral change rooms have also been incorporated in the new build, containing individual cubicles, these were pushed for by the brigade as part of the building process, with them not being standard in CFA stations.<\/p>\n

It is estimated about 100 people attended the open day.<\/p>\n

The new station is on Murradoc Road and replaces the about 40-year-old facility on Dudley Parade in St Leonards.<\/p>\n

The new station officially opened on December 2 ahead of the fire season.<\/p>\n
