TELSTRA has announced major upgrades to its Queenscliff mobile base station, resulting in a suspension of mobile services at the site from Monday February 12 to 16.<\/p>\n
The company anticipates further service disruptions from February 17-21 during the final stages of network integration and testing.<\/p>\n
A Telstra spokesperson confirmed that impacted customers would be informed through SMS alerts.<\/p>\n
“Customers will receive a text message notifying them about the upgrade works,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Mobile phone users between Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale will be impacted by the works.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson also highlighted the broader benefits of the upgrade.<\/p>\n
“The works are being carried out to upgrade 4G services and introduce 5G coverage,<\/p>\n
“The new tower will ensure we have the capacity to meet future peak season demands.”<\/p>\n
Emergency calls made from mobiles affected by the outage will automatically be rerouted to available networks.<\/p>\n
“Emergency calls from Telstra mobiles will be rerouted to available networks to ensure access to emergency services,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Coverage from nearby Telstra sites at Point Lonsdale Golf Club and the Queenscliff water tank will remain operational.<\/p>\n
Other telecommunications services, including landlines and NBN internet, as well as mobile coverage from alternative providers, will not be impacted by Telstra’s upgrade activities.<\/p>\n
