GEELONG residents cleaning up their properties after Tuesday’s destructive storm can drop off their green waste and storm-damaged items for free until the end of the month.<\/p>\n
Several areas, particularly Lara, are littered with fallen branches, leaves and other green waste.<\/p>\n
To support the debris cleanup efforts, the City of Greater Geelong announced today (Friday, February 16) that its Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre is accepting green waste debris – limited to trees, branches, and leaves – from residents in cars, utes and trailers for free.<\/p>\n
Trucks will still incur standard disposal fees.<\/p>\n
Anything other than the green waste described will not be accepted or will incur a fee.<\/p>\n
The Drysdale facility is also accepting storm-damaged items for free after the Victorian government waived the waste levy for disposal.<\/p>\n
Community members must be able to show a Greater Geelong address on their identification to use the free drop-off.<\/p>\n
Material placed on nature strips will not be collected by the city and will need to be disposed of via the drysdale facility or green bins.<\/p>\n
The city’s executive director of city Infrastructure James Stirton said parts of the region, especially Lara, had been hit hard by the significant storm earlier this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community has been working hard to clean up from the damage caused by severe wind and rain that battered the township on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo assist residents, the Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre is accepting green waste debris from car, ute and trailer loads for free.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thank residents for their efforts and support of each other during this challenging time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The city is also advising the Geelong Resource Recovery Centre in Douro Street, North Geelong is undergoing renovations at the moment and is unable to accept green waste.<\/p>\n
