VICROADS says it is working closely with Powercor to finalise a switch-on date for new traffic lights installed at Leopold.<\/p>\n
Regional Director of South West Mark Koliba said the traffic lights at the intersection of Melaluka Road and Portarlington Highway would greatly improve safety for pedestrians and drivers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe expect the new traffic lights to be switched on soon,\u201d Mr Koliba said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very happy to be able to deliver a much safer intersection for the local community, particularly the school children who access the bus.\u201d<\/p>\n
In June last year, Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced that the traffic lights would be operational by early 2018.<\/p>\n
The lights come after a serious accident involving Bellarine Secondary College student Lachlan Mackinnon in 2016.<\/p>\n
As part of the upgrade, new pedestrian lights will boost safety for students crossing the road to catch the bus from Melaluka Road and two new disability-compliant bus stops will be built on Portarlington Road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
