Photo: JUDY SAULT.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Committee member Judy Sault said there was presently lots of rubbish down towards the end of the beach, which was home to many protected birds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to enhance the natural values of the beach habitat for the benefits of its flora and fauna and the wider Port Philip environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Plastic stuff from the bay, fisherman&#8217;s line, cigarette butts, and all that sort of stuff is really hazardous for the marine life, and also the bird life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Edwards Point protects the last remaining stand of coastal woodland on the Bellarine Peninsula, and several rare bird species have been recorded there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82456\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82456\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82456 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Yellow-Spoonbill-1024x768.jpg?_t=1708490766\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Yellow-Spoonbill-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Yellow-Spoonbill-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Yellow-Spoonbill-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Yellow-Spoonbill.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Many bird species have been recorded at the reserve including the Yellow Spoonbill. Photo: JUDY SAULT<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Sault said that rubbish in the reserve had always been an issue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We just don&#8217;t want it to get worse, we also want the new people who are moving to the area to have respect for it and look after it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The St Leonards group hold regular working bees, focussed on clearing weeds, bush regeneration and planting where necessary.
