{"id":82547,"date":"2024-02-27T04:00:11","date_gmt":"2024-02-26T17:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=82547"},"modified":"2024-02-22T11:30:33","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T00:30:33","slug":"comedy-legend-locked-in-for-point-lonsdale-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/comedy-legend-locked-in-for-point-lonsdale-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Comedy legend locked in for Point Lonsdale show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A POPULAR Australian comedian will headline a coming comedy night in Point Lonsdale next month in the hope of raising additional funds for local lifesavers and life-saving equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander Jacob Gutman, better known by his stage name Austen Tayshus, will make a special appearance at a special Comedy Night fundraiser at Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club (PLSLSC) on March 4.<\/p>\n<p>The comedy night will focus on the 40th anniversary of comedic work &#8220;Australiana&#8221;, inviting residents and visitors to witness an international-level talent while helping to raise funds for the club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Back when I was about 15, Austen Tayshus was number one on the Australian charts back then. Everybody watched him when he was at his peak in this country,&#8221; PLSLSC hospitality manager Jay Epstein said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m just a low-key manager here at a little club on the seaside and when he reached out asking to play at our venue, I couldn&#8217;t believe it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had a chat to him, and he is a really funny guy. We had a long chat about being Jewish, which we both are, and he was just extremely nice, so we booked him from there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>100 per cent of the funds raised through tickets will go directly into the club, thanks to a generous donation by Point Lonsdale businessman and owner of the Point Lonsdale Guesthouse, Andrew Cannon.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cannon has been a long-time supporter of the club and will sponsor the expense of the act.<\/p>\n<p>PLSLSC commercial director Emma Harrison said all proceeds would go towards extra lifesaving equipment, the installation of a water bubbler in the clubhouse and bike racks for volunteer lifesavers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do have a bit of a wishlist of items we hope to be able to purchase as a result of the proceeds made from social events, so we&#8217;re extremely grateful to have Austen Tayshus performing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The lifesaving season continues until Easter, and these are the things we feel are most needed at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope we can get a decent crowd on the night; it will be one to remember.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 90-minute show will run between 8-10pm on the night.
