THE Borough of Queenscliffe has collaborated with Ratio Consultants to develop a draft Traffic Management Strategy for the town, now available for public review.<\/p>\n
This strategy aims to address community concerns over vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, and road safety in the township.<\/p>\n
Central to the strategy is the recognition of the need for a balanced and dynamic approach to traffic management that not only addresses existing challenges but is also adaptable to future changes in traffic patterns and urban development.<\/p>\n
Key steps in formulating the Queenscliff Traffic Management Strategy (QTMS) included reviewing past community feedback, conducting traffic surveys, analysing the Department of Transport’s Movement and Place framework, and integrating insights from the Active Transport Strategy.<\/p>\n
Among the high-priority projects identified are:<\/p>\n
Bethune Street: Implementation of a raised intersection treatment at the intersection with Dod Street to address traffic speeds in the 40km\/h area.<\/p>\n
Stevens Street (between King Street and Stokes Street): Construction of localized kerb outstands and a speed hump mid-block to manage traffic speeds, also in the 40kmh area.<\/p>\n
Stevens Street (between Stokes Street and Hobson Street): Enhancement of an existing raised school crossing to further address traffic speeds in the 40kmh zone.<\/p>\n
Hesse Street (between Stokes Street and Symonds Street): Advocacy to the Department of Transport to permanently reduce speed limits to 40kmh throughout the core activity centre precinct, aiming to improve pedestrian safety.<\/p>\n
With the draft strategy now available, the borough is seeking public input over the next 28 days.<\/p>\n
