{"id":84563,"date":"2024-04-12T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=84563"},"modified":"2024-04-12T15:58:32","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T05:58:32","slug":"raising-spirits-regions-distilleries-toast-to-new-era-with-training-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/raising-spirits-regions-distilleries-toast-to-new-era-with-training-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Raising spirits: Region&#8217;s distilleries toast to new era with training program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIA&#8217;S distillery industry is set to boost its expertise with the introduction of a new pilot training program.<\/p>\n<p>This $1.2 million initiative, created through a collaboration between the National Distilling Institute, Spirits Victoria Association, and the Australian Distillers Association, includes a Certificate IV in Artisan Fermented Products and micro-credential courses in distillery safety.<\/p>\n<p>The first session was launched at Starward Distillery in Port Melbourne, with the next scheduled at Anther Distillery in Geelong on April 16.<\/p>\n<p>Dervilla McGowan, founder and chef distiller at Anther, said the program was vital for the booming industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the industry expanding so quickly, we see gaps in knowledge among self-taught distillers,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This training is crucial for filling those gaps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/AnterWinterJuly2020S_00277.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victoria, home to over 180 distilleries and more than 9,000 employees, is recognised as the distillery capital of Australia. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Part of the $20 million Distillery Door Program aimed at bolstering and enhancing Victoria&#8217;s distillery industry, this initiative is designed to advance distillation techniques and improve industry safety.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria, home to more than 180 distilleries and more than 9,000 employees, is recognised as the distillery capital of Australia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re winning international awards against established distilleries,&#8221; said McGowan.<\/p>\n<p>Across the region, Anther, Great Ocean Road Gin, Torquay&#8217;s Flow State Brewers and Distillers, and The Bellarine Distillery have garnered numerous national and international awards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Four Pillars was named the world&#8217;s best gin maker, Grainshaker recently won Australia&#8217;s best vodka at the World Vodka Awards, and The Bellarine Distillery received the title of Australia&#8217;s Best Distillery for their gin,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>In the next 18 months, participants will tackle 22 subjects, gaining insights into blending spirits, filtering fermented beverages, performing basic safety tests, and managing food contamination and spoilage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/AnterWinterJuly2020S_00273.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"479\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victoria&#8217;s distillery industry is set for a boost, with a new pilot training program.
