MORE than 1,200 trekkers took on this year’s Surf Coast Trek, the highest number of participants in its nine-year history.<\/p>\n

The Saturday, April 13, event is set to break its fundraising record, already raising $275,000 by April 14, with the goal of getting to $300,000.<\/p>\n

The Surf Coast Trek is the largest fundraising event for Kids+ and the Give Where You Live Foundation, with funds raised being split between the two.<\/p>\n

“We’re working hard to create a fairer Geelong and we can only do that with the support of our community,” Give Where You Live CEO Bill Mithen said.<\/p>\n

“The amazing efforts of all of our 2024 Surf Coast Trekkers will help those most in need in our community.”<\/p>\n

“Due to increased cost of living we’re seeing more and more individuals and families facing unemployment, homelessness, and struggling to put food on the table.”<\/p>\n

Participants made their way through the Ironbark Basin, across exposed cliff tops and sandy beaches before reaching the festival-style finish line at Torquay’s Elephant Walk.<\/p>\n

Locals headed down to welcome the trekkers in with food, drinks, music and kids’ entertainment.<\/p>\n

Kids+ Marketing Manager Sharon Gibbons said they are proud to work alongside the Give Where You Live Foundation and this year’s event had the best finish line.<\/p>\n

“If you were at the finish line on Saturday, you were left in no doubt as to what this event is all about, community, inclusion, and pride in our beautiful Surf Coast.<\/p>\n

“Thank you so much to each and every person who donated, trekked, and supported us along the way.”<\/p>\n

Donations will remain open until May 15 as organisers push towards their goal.<\/p>\n

The Give Where You Live Foundation exists to build a fairer community, while Kids+ provides specialist allied health services and support to those with disability.<\/p>\n
