REGISTRATIONS have opened for this year’s Ride for Red Nose, raising funds for the Red Nose charity to support families battling grief from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Stillbirth.<\/p>\n

Ride for Red Nose organiser and founder Peter Herrick says only a limited number of rider spots are available for this year’s ride, with only 30 positions available for, now in its third year, taking place on Saturday, August 31.<\/p>\n

“Opening registrations does signify a fair bit of work to come organising this year’s ride, but it also starts the process of us welcoming riders to the event and beginning the donations process as well,” Mr Herrick said.<\/p>\n

“It’s getting the message out there about towards supporting the community, which in this current climate with the horrible things that happened in Sydney over the weekend, really brings to light how important it is to support others.<\/p>\n

“I’m really proud we can continue to help parents who have lost a child, whether through SIDS, miscarriage, or still birth, the word is getting out there about the support that is available to them and we’re really proud of the impact we have made.”<\/p>\n

Mr Herrick didn’t rule out alternative options to accommodate extra riders for this year’s ride, but cycling groups will be capped at 30 to adhere to Council regulations.<\/p>\n

“This is a great challenge for people to undertake, whether rain, hail or shine, it’s a great way to give to a good cause while riding 110km,” Mr Herrick said.<\/p>\n

“We’ll also be hosting our silent auction and raffles to help boost the funds raised this year and we thank our sponsors for assisting in that regard.”<\/p>\n

Riders’ children will also have the option to undertake the ride, as part of the event’s inaugural Kid’s All Ability Ride taking place in Lara on September 1, the day following the Ride for Red Nose.<\/p>\n

Children participating can tackle three different course lengths from either 2km, 4km, or 6km around Grand Lakes Estate.<\/p>\n

Mr Herrick says this year’s event is aiming for its highest donation total in its three years of fundraising, hopeful to hit the event’s $50,000 target.<\/p>\n

To date, Ride for Red Nose, formally named Ride the Bellarine for SIDS, has raised over $70,000 over its first two years.<\/p>\n
