THE Borough of Queenscliffe will host their annual e-waste drop-off day next Saturday (May 11).<\/p>\n

Residents will be able to responsibly dispose of their old e-waste free of charge at the Ocean View Caravan Park in Queenscliff.<\/p>\n

Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Ross Ebbels said they are urging residents to make use of the drop-off.<\/p>\n

“E-waste contains potentially hazardous, and valuable materials, which we know do not belong in landfill.”<\/p>\n

“To help protect the environment and recover more precious resources, the Victorian Government banned all e-waste from landfill, this means e-waste can’t go in a household bin.”<\/p>\n

“The safe disposal of electrical waste ensures these items are disposed of responsibly.”<\/p>\n

Once the items have been dropped off, they are taken apart and separated into components before being recycled into new products.<\/p>\n

E-waste includes items with a plug, battery or power cord, residents are asked to remove batteries and can drop off household appliances, electrical tools, mobile phones and more.<\/p>\n

Light bulbs, large or bulky items, smoke detectors, CD’s and DVDs or large batteries won’t be accepted.<\/p>\n

If items are still in working condition, owners should consider donating rather than taking them to the drop-off.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year e-wate items can be disposed of at the Drysdale Resource and Recovery Centre.<\/p>\n

Residents will be able to drop their items off between 9am and 1pm.<\/p>\n
