WORKS have begun in Clifton Springs on a new roundabout.<\/p>\n
Located at the intersection of Bay Shore Avenue and Jetty Road, the roundabout will feature a raised pedestrian crossing and is expected to be completed by the middle of the year.<\/p>\n
Once construction has finished, a reduced speed limit will also be introduced, intended to improve safety in the area for drivers and pedestrians.<\/p>\n
The project is part of the Victorian government’s $210 million Safe Roads and Streets Program, which aims to support local governments to deliver road safety improvements on high-risk local roads.<\/p>\n
The site in Clifton Springs was identified by the City of Greater Geelong as a priority area for upgrade.<\/p>\n
“Upon completion, the new roundabout will contribute to improved traffic flow and enhanced safety for all members of the community,” Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
Local governments own, and are responsible for, the operation of 87 per cent of the state’s roads, and approximately 40 per cent of road trauma each year occurs on roads managed by councils.<\/p>\n
The Safe Roads and Streets Program will run until June 2027 and has been developed in recognition of the barriers facing local governments to deliver road safety improvements.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant celebrated the Clifton Springs roundabout project, which will be the first delivered under the program.<\/p>\n
“Crews are on site right now delivering a new roundabout in Clifton Springs, improving pedestrian and driver safety to ensure it is easier and quicker for all road users travelling through the area,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
