THE future of the St Leonards Local Port Area and its pier redevelopment on the Bellarine Peninsula is taking shape, driven by over 600 community inputs received in recent consultations.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the community’s role in shaping the area’s future was key.<\/p>\n
“I know just how passionate our community is about the future of the St Leonards local port area, which is why I advocated to extend the consultation period to ensure we can get the best result for Bellarine.<\/p>\n
“St Leonards Pier is not just a pier, it’s a gathering point for the local community and for many it comes with cherished memories and time with family and friends.”<\/p>\n
The consultation is part of a broader initiative under the Victorian Budget 2023-24, which includes a $46 million investment for critical works at piers and jetties across the state.<\/p>\n
Over the past two months, locals including fishers, boaters, walkers, divers, and swimmers have shared their views on draft plans provided by Parks Victoria.<\/p>\n
“It was great to see so many locals, school kids and regular visitors participate in the survey by Parks Victoria, providing feedback to assist with the development of further plans,” Ms Marchant said.<\/p>\n
This feedback will be used to refine the designs and ensure ongoing community engagement as the project progresses.<\/p>\n
An engagement summary report will be developed and distributed to participants who have provided their email contacts during the consultation.<\/p>\n
