{"id":87815,"date":"2024-06-05T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=87815"},"modified":"2024-05-29T18:21:37","modified_gmt":"2024-05-29T08:21:37","slug":"leopold-fire-brigade-welcomes-new-tanker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/leopold-fire-brigade-welcomes-new-tanker\/","title":{"rendered":"Leopold Fire Brigade welcomes new tanker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEOPOLD CFA has welcomed a big boost to its brigade following the official handover of a new tanker to its unit.<\/p>\n<p>State Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant was in attendance to witness Leopold&#8217;s fire station accept the vehicle in order to continue protecting the community.<\/p>\n<p>The tanker was added to the brigade thanks to the Victorian Government&#8217;s Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) with the capacity to carry 2,350 litres of water to suppress fires and can incorporate a crew protection system to help volunteers during a burnover.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/IMG-20240527-WA0022_99122.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leopold Fire Brigade captain Chris Wilkinson and Bellarine MP Alison Marchant.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The tanker also exhibits a four-wheel drive crew cabin fitting up to five firefighters inside.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Leopold Fire Brigade provides an essential service to the Bellarine area, and I am pleased to officially handover this new medium tanker to these deserving volunteers,&#8221; Ms Marchant said.<\/p>\n<p>Leopold Fire Brigade received more than $320,000 worth of VESEP funding in 2020-21 towards the purchase of the tanker.<\/p>\n<p>It then generously contributed more than $58,000, bringing the total investment to almost $380,000.<\/p>\n<p>Brigade captain Chris Wilkinson said the new vehicle has a number of upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re finding operationally it&#8217;s more efficient and there&#8217;s a really good feel about the truck among the brigade,&#8221; Mr Wilkinson said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/26519_13076_28May202_99102.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leopold Firefighters Tom Duncan, Lieutenant Mathew Berryman, Alison Marchant MP, captain Chris Wilkinson, and Joshua Robins. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;This tanker is a four-wheel drive, whereas the other one was a two, so we&#8217;ve gained a drive system that has the capacity to get us further when we get called out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It also helps that the design is similar to our other tanker, so the transition has been smooth, and we can now run with two crew cabin variants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes said VESEP was an annual grants program that supports Victorian emergency service volunteer groups to purchase essential equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Victoria&#8217;s emergency service volunteers are exceptionally dedicated to their communities and these grants ensure they have the equipment they need to continue their work safely.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;VESEP grants have a positive impact in supporting our volunteer emergency services and we encourage eligible groups to apply for this year&#8217;s round.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1942, Leopold Fire Brigade is home to 53 members, including 30 operational members.<\/p>\n<p>Leopold Fire Brigade averages more than 150 callouts per year attending jobs such as rescues, motor vehicle accidents, and scrub, grass and house fires.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEOPOLD CFA has welcomed a big boost to its brigade following the official handover of a new tanker to its unit.
