{"id":8823,"date":"2018-04-11T05:52:34","date_gmt":"2018-04-11T05:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=8823"},"modified":"2018-04-13T06:15:48","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T06:15:48","slug":"alcohol-reforms-to-protect-victorian-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/alcohol-reforms-to-protect-victorian-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"Alcohol reforms to protect Victorian kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>THE VICTORIAN Government has announced reforms that will protect children from alcohol advertising and strengthen laws around the sale and supply of alcohol.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Alcohol Policy Coalition (APC) has welcomed the government\u2019s intentions to make reforms to Victoria\u2019s Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 which includes banning alcohol advertising within 150m of schools.<\/p>\n<p>APC spokesperson and Cancer Council Victoria senior legal policy advisor Sarah Jackson strongly supported the reforms and said there was a clear link between exposure to alcohol advertising and alcohol use in young people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know the more adolescents are exposed to alcohol advertising the more likely they are to start drinking at a young age and engage in risky levels of drinking,\u201d Ms Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlcohol companies know this and have continued to advertise in predatory ways that increase their profits at the expense of the well-being of our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new reforms will also strengthen existing laws to prevent the sale of alcohol to children with delivery drivers to check identification when delivering alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe applaud the Victorian Government for taking this step,\u201d senior social justice advocate Mark Zirnsak said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE VICTORIAN Government has announced reforms that will protect children from alcohol advertising and strengthen laws around the sale and supply of alcohol.
