{"id":88681,"date":"2024-06-18T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-17T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=88681"},"modified":"2024-06-12T20:25:06","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:25:06","slug":"celtic-festival-hailed-as-best-ever-over-long-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/celtic-festival-hailed-as-best-ever-over-long-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Festival hailed as &#8220;best ever&#8221; over long weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANOTHER National Celtic Folk Festival has been added to the history books, with thousands of residents and visitors flocking to Portarlington over the King&#8217;s Birthday long weekend.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s festival marked the 20th time it was held on the Bellarine, allowing the Celtic atmosphere to be on full display alongside Victoria&#8217;s coastline.<\/p>\n<p>Festival director Una McAlinden was thrilled with the turnout over the four-day festival, claiming this year&#8217;s event was the best one yet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/Purcell_Adam-NCFF24-_74089.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 300 volunteers helped this year&#8217;s National Celtic Folk Festival run smoothly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;We strive to better it each time,&#8221; Ms McAlinden said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are used to regulars saying it&#8217;s the highlight of their year, but this time they are saying it was really something special and we certainly felt that, too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Organisers hailed the children artwork area in the Rotunda for the delightful Spirit of Story-<\/p>\n<p>Shadow Play.<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow-based trio and festival firsts Callum McIlroy, Chloe Bryce and Megan MacDonald enchanted guests with their engaging brand of music.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/Purcell_Adam-NCFF24-_74146.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Boylan Band performing live.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There was no shortage of dancing, either. The Highland Dance Company of New Zealand shared the story of highland dancing from its beginnings and Celtic Dancers got the crowds jigging in<\/p>\n<p>their seats.<\/p>\n<p>Ms McAlinden said the artists also enjoyed the structure of this year&#8217;s festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They love to catch up from all over the country and support each other, it&#8217;s a wonderful environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 300-plus volunteers worked so well together too and helped the event run smoothly, it just wouldn&#8217;t happen without them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a hard time for festivals so we couldn&#8217;t be happier with how well it went off, with many first timers attending too.
