{"id":88979,"date":"2024-06-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-22T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=88979"},"modified":"2024-06-19T21:31:20","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T11:31:20","slug":"st-ignatius-celebrates-new-senior-student-learning-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/st-ignatius-celebrates-new-senior-student-learning-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"St Ignatius celebrates new senior student learning centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE competition of a newly opened learning centre at one of the Bellarine&#8217;s Catholic schools is expected to greatly improve studies for local students.<\/p>\n<p>St Ignatius College in Drysdale has celebrated the opening of its $24 million MacKillop Centre, which will serve the school&#8217;s senior students after receiving financial support from the state government and Catholic Development Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Bellarine MP Alison Marchant attended the official blessing and opening of the centre, which featured in the Victorian Government&#8217;s 2019-23 Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Marchant emphasised elite-level facilities must be available to all schools.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Victorian government is making sure that all Victorian schools have the best facilities. We can&#8217;t be the Education State without improving schools across all sectors,&#8221; Ms Marchant said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Non-government schools are an important part of Bellarine, providing local families with choice when it comes to educating their children.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/DSC07867_52208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alison Marchant (fourth from right) leads the opening of the MacKillop Centre. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Local families can now enjoy world class learning facilities at Saint Ignatius College.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The facility is providing the school with general learning areas, a dedicated maker space, and a 400-seat lecture theatre.<\/p>\n<p>St Ignatius College joins a long line of schools since 2015 to receive Victorian Government investment to build, expand and renovate Catholic and independent schools across the state.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the opening of the facility, students welcomed Archbishop Peter Comensoli who officially blessed the new building, before partaking in a light lunch.<\/p>\n<p>The 2023-24 Victorian budget committed a further $450 million to build and upgrade low-fee Catholic and independent schools across the state and has surpassed $1 billion since the fund&#8217;s inception.<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian government is also aiming to open 100 new schools by 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE competition of a newly opened learning centre at one of the Bellarine&#8217;s Catholic schools is expected to greatly improve studies for local students.
