THE SUCCESS just keeps rolling in for a Bellarine bakery after winning Australia\u2019s Best Pie for the third time in four years.<\/p>\n

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes again rose to the top at Australia\u2019s Best Pie and Pastie competition, which ended yesterday (Thursday, June 20), with the bakery taking top honours for its Asian-inspired Prawn Laksa Pie.<\/p>\n

The bakery also tasted success for a fourth time in the Vegetarian Pastie category with its Wholemeal Vegetarian (Vegan) pastie.<\/p>\n

About 2,000 pies and pasties were examined during the event, with 367 bakeries from across the country baking it out for ultimate bragging rights in 10 categories.<\/p>\n

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes general manager Nathan Williams said the team was thrilled to take their national title tally to 26.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely crazy, honestly unbelievable, I\u2019m still pinching myself when I think about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo win it twice in a row was off the charts, but to do it again in 2024 is truly amazing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team work so hard, and we\u2019ve been so busy preparing. It\u2019s just great reward for effort.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Williams said the winning pie was very close to not making it into competition due to the bakery trying to perfect its texture elements.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrazily, there was a moment where I wasn\u2019t even going to send it!<\/p>\n

\u201cI was looking through judging comments from previous competitions and it was always a touch runny. It\u2019s important for judges that it’s stable and doesn\u2019t fall in your lap.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis time I thickened it more, but it seemed too much.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t get the chance to have many cracks at it, but gave it one more go and luckily, I didn\u2019t fail.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife convinced me to send it in and luckily it was a winner.”<\/p>\n

Mr Williams said the feeling of winning continued to get better every time and there was no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are certainly going to continue entering the events and striving to make the best pies and pasties we possibly we can!<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been experimenting with plenty of chicken flavours and tossing in more Asian flavours, which have been a hit with judges.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll definitely send a few of those next year in the hope of adding some more national titles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Locals can taste the winning pies at any of the five Rolling Pin locations in Ocean Grove, Leopold, Queenscliff and South Geelong.<\/p>\n
