{"id":89264,"date":"2024-06-27T04:00:08","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T18:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=89264"},"modified":"2024-06-26T17:13:50","modified_gmt":"2024-06-26T07:13:50","slug":"queenscliffs-nightide-ignites-winter-with-fire-ice-and-fireworks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/queenscliffs-nightide-ignites-winter-with-fire-ice-and-fireworks\/","title":{"rendered":"Queenscliff&#8217;s Nightide ignites winter with fire, ice and fireworks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE THAN 7,000 people descended on Queenscliff at the weekend for the second annual Nightide winter solstice celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by Searoad Ferries at the compound surrounding the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal, the event brought together community members of all ages for a fire- and ice-themed celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Rugged-up attendees enjoy an evening filled with live music, roaming entertainment, ice baths, hot saunas and local food vendors.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/1H4A1788_18459.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Attendees gathered to watch the lighting of the event&#8217;s central bonfire.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As the sky darkened, many gathered along the beach to watch a stunning firework display before the event&#8217;s central bonfire was set ablaze.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 daring participants braved the icy waters of Port Philip Bay for the inaugural 500m Frostbite swim, while several more participated in the fancy-dress float event, donning their best outfits and inflatable devices.<\/p>\n<p>Named best dressed in the 100m float, Emily Burke selected HeartKids, a national organisation supporting families impacted by childhood-onset heart disease, as the recipient of her $1,000 winnings.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/06\/448609190_8868006534_18507.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An explosive firework display drew event-goers to the beach. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Searoad Ferries chief executive Matt McDonald said the Nightide event was an &#8220;amazing success&#8221; with attendees &#8220;enjoying an amazing time together&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was a great atmosphere and vibe for people of all ages and backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The success of this event is largely due to the hard work and dedication of the Searoad Ferries events team and all the staff that pull together from all areas of the business to deliver this amazing experience to our customers and community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d like to acknowledge the support of the Borough of Queenscliffe and the many local businesses and organisations that contributed to bringing this event together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Events like this help drive visitation and economic development in Queenscliff and we look forward to building on Nightide in 2025.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE THAN 7,000 people descended on Queenscliff at the weekend for the second annual Nightide winter solstice celebration.
