GEELONG Cats small forward and premiership player Tyson Stengle has locked in a five-year deal, keeping him at Kardinia Park until the end of 2029.<\/p>\n
Stengle\u2019s contract status was under intense speculation in recent weeks, with the 25-year-old\u2019s contract running out at season\u2019s end.<\/p>\n
The announcement, confirmed this morning (Sunday, June 30) by the Cats, comes a day after Geelong\u2019s pivotal 45-point win over Essendon.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like the club has really embraced me since I first walked through the door, I just wanted to give back to the club,\u201d Stengle said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way they looked after me at the club was the main reason I want to stay, the way they run the program, the coaches as well, the way they run the program and how the players embraced me are probably the main reasons I wanted to stay in Geelong until 2029.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited for the next five years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stengle joined Geelong at the end of 2021 from the Adelaide Crows, playing all 25 games for the Cats in his first season in 2022.<\/p>\n
He also received his first All Australian selection that year and kicked a game-high four goals to help the Cats win the 2022 AFL Premiership.<\/p>\n
Geelong Cats general manager of football Andrew Mackie was excited that Stengle was staying at the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are thrilled Tyson has recommitted to the Cats. Tyson continues to show his talent and brilliance on-field and we look forward to watching him continue to flourish as a person and footballer,\u201d Mackie said.<\/p>\n
