BELLARINE’S smallest towns are set to benefit from a series of new community-led projects via the Victorian government’s $20 million Tiny Towns Fund.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant, announced the first round of grants for five local projects, aimed at enhancing community spaces and attracting more visitors to the region.<\/p>\n
Queenscliff Museum will receive $50,000 to refurbish the historic Gil Allbutt Boat Shed, while the Indented Head Yacht Club has been allocated $10,000 for clubhouse improvements.<\/p>\n
St Leonards Progress Association is set to use $11,416 to upgrade the entrance and courtyard surfaces and provide additional shade.<\/p>\n
Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway Inc will benefit from $21,000 for the refurbishment of the Point Richards Station and Signal Box Building.<\/p>\n
The Bellarine Bears Baseball Club will receive $50,000 to improve fencing at the Wallington Recreation Reserve Baseball field.<\/p>\n
Ms Marchant said these projects, funded through the Tiny Towns Fund, would strengthen community connections and boost local tourism.<\/p>\n
“The Tiny Towns Fund empowers small communities to thrive, ensuring projects that locals are passionate about can become a reality,” Ms Marchant said.<\/p>\n
The fund supports over 200 projects across regional and outer metropolitan towns with fewer than 5,000 residents. It aims to celebrate local spirit and drive visitation to these areas.<\/p>\n
Grants of up to $50,000 are available for community and non-profit groups, as well as councils, to kickstart these initiatives.<\/p>\n
Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney said the fund would have a positive impact on many local communities.<\/p>\n
