GEELONG mayor Trent Sullivan will visit Changwon in South Korea to help build relationships and advance future business opportunities.<\/p>\n
His visit will help encourage investment in Geelong and strengthen existing ties with key industries in Changwon City under manufacturing and technology.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Changwon City in March 2022, formalising an agreement to collaborate on trade, education and cultural exchanges.<\/p>\n
Changwon City is home to global manufacturing giant Hanwha Corporation, who is building an $170 million facility in Avalon.<\/p>\n
Mayor Sullivan will be accompanied on the trip to South Korea by the City’s chief executive officer Ali Wastie.<\/p>\n
He said he looked forward to increasing Greater Geelong’s global visibility.<\/p>\n
“The aim is to attract more South Korean investment to our city by making connections and strongly promoting Geelong’s advantages,” Mayor Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
“There is potential to generate significant investment directly into our local economy, supporting local businesses and increasing local job opportunities for our community.<\/p>\n
“With an international airport, major port, leading research university and our world standard advanced manufacturing sector, we have a lot to offer that other cities don’t.<\/p>\n
“Promoting ourselves to the world is a key part of our strategy to secure the long-term health of our local economy.”<\/p>\n
The cost of the Mayor and CEO’s trip to Changwon will be limited to economy class flights, with the hosts covering accommodation and other expenses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
