{"id":91590,"date":"2024-08-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-08T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=91590"},"modified":"2024-08-07T21:51:17","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T11:51:17","slug":"virtual-fencing-a-step-closer-as-ag-vic-jumps-on-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/virtual-fencing-a-step-closer-as-ag-vic-jumps-on-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual fencing a step closer as Ag Vic jumps on board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FARMERS are continually looking at ways of making livestock management more efficient, and the shift towards virtual fencing has been given a boost with a partnership between Agriculture Victoria and Halter in trialling the use of virtual fencing technology at the government&#8217;s Ellinbank Smartfarm.<\/p>\n<p>VFF president Emma Germano said this move was a forward step towards making the technology accessible to Victorian farmers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year the VFF has been engaged in direct discussions with the Minister for Agriculture to progress the use of virtual fencing technology on Victorian farms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The VFF has been encouraging the Victorian government to work on the regulations that will be required to enable its use commercially.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory already have the ability to use virtual fencing, as well as in international benchmarks such as New Zealand, the UK, Canada, and the USA.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_141974\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-141974\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-141974\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/Beef-Fence1_20569_tn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"575\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-141974\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Virtual fencing has a broad application across the livestock sector, but will also provide substantial benefit for the dairy industry.
