THE BELLARINE Highway will be made safer for Victorian travellers thanks to road safety upgrades from the federal and state governments.<\/p>\n
The $8.58 million safety upgrades will see crews install road safety barriers across the Wallington and Moolap sections of the Bellarine Highway.<\/p>\n
Upgrades will also remove right turn traffic from Swan Bay Road in Wallington, allowing drivers to safety cross the Bellarine Highway in separate movements.<\/p>\n
This will allow for more than one vehicle to queue in the median space at any given time.<\/p>\n
More than 35,000 commuters, tourists and local drivers use the Bellarine Highway each day.<\/p>\n
Over the past five years, there has been 24 recorded crashes on the Wallington and Moolap sections of the highway.<\/p>\n
Tragically, one crash resulted in a Victorian losing their life in 2023.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the road safety upgrades would aim to prevent road accidents.<\/p>\n
