{"id":92643,"date":"2024-08-21T20:42:10","date_gmt":"2024-08-21T10:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/grovedale-ruck-earns-best-and-fairest-honour\/"},"modified":"2024-08-21T20:42:10","modified_gmt":"2024-08-21T10:42:10","slug":"grovedale-ruck-earns-best-and-fairest-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/grovedale-ruck-earns-best-and-fairest-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Grovedale ruck earns Best and Fairest honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">AFL BARWON\u2019S Female Football Division 1 Best and Fairest Award has been awarded to a ruck for the second consecutive season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Grovedale\u2019s Janessa FitzGerald earned the competition\u2019s top individual honour this evening (Wednesday, August 21) at the annual Female Football presentation night at Buckley\u2019s Entertainment Centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">FitzGerald accumulated 19 votes across 11 games during the home and away season, edging out Thomson\u2019s Phoebe Monahan by a single vote, and team-mate Taylah Hassett and Barwon Heads\u2019 Isabella Farchione who finished tied for third on 15 votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">FitzGerald served as a pivotal cog in Grovedale\u2019s side, assisting the Tigers in their 2024 campaign which will conclude this Sunday, August 25 in the Grand Final rematch against Geelong Amateur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Grovedale tall follows Geelong Amateur\u2019s Danielle Sgarbi as the second ruck to win the award in as many years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Sgarbi finished with eight total votes, putting her inside the top 15 division wide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">FitzGerald is also the third Tiger in four years to be awarded the Division 1 best and fairest, following Alana Tully earning the honour in 2022 and Isabella Hill doing the same in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Rounding out the other two divisions, South Barwon\u2019s Elara Dillon was crowned best and fairest in Division 2 with 19 votes, closely followed by St Joseph\u2019s co-captain Paris Stokes (18 votes) and previous two-time winner Tara Smith from Drysdale (16 votes).<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Modewarre\u2019s Monique Martin was named Division 3 highest vote-getter with 14 votes, finishing in ahead of teammate Clodagh Newton\u2019s 13 votes, and St Albans\u2019 Gracie Navarro\u2019s 12 votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Newtown &amp;
