{"id":92889,"date":"2024-08-25T18:27:28","date_gmt":"2024-08-25T08:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/hawks-swoop-on-modewarre-to-advance-to-prelim\/"},"modified":"2024-08-26T13:00:31","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T03:00:31","slug":"hawks-swoop-on-modewarre-to-advance-to-prelim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/hawks-swoop-on-modewarre-to-advance-to-prelim\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawks swoop on Modewarre to advance to Prelim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">DRYSDALE has bounced back from last week\u2019s disappointing defeat to Anglesea to earn a spot in this year\u2019s Bellarine Football League (BFL) Preliminary Final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Hawks welcomed back skipper Mitch McGuire in a must-win fixture at today\u2019s Semi-Final against Modewarre, where Drysdale rode a six-goal first quarter to win 15.7 (97) to 6.8 (44) in Portarlington this afternoon (Sunday, August 25).<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Ben Carmichael\u2019s line-up was lethal in the opening term as the Hawks opened their account with six goals straight to lead the game 36-7 at the first break.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The situation got worse for Modewarre, who were without 400-gamer Josh Finch due to injury, trailing 59-18 at half time with only two goals from 10 scoring shots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The third term saw both sides score a combined 26 points, but Drysdale did well to not give the Warriors a sniff in the fourth, pushing the final deficit out to 53 points.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_144417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144417\" style=\"width: 482px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-144417 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/My-Room-117-2-scaled.jpg?_t=1724574338\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" height=\"321\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-144417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Morgan Fenton kicks it forward for Modewarre.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Drysdale forward Jake Hargreaves will return to the lineup for next week\u2019s Preliminary Final against Torquay after serving his one-game suspension for striking Anglesea playing-coach Jordan Keras.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Drysdale tall Cameron Delaney was instrumental for the Hawks, kicking five goals alongside Joel Watson\u2019s four. James Breust added a pair, while star midfielder Ben Fennell scored one as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Both Delaney and Watson earned best on ground honours for their respective hauls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Scott Morter kicked a pair for Modewarre, while Connor Joseph was kept quiet with just one goal.
