THE Borough of Queenscliffe is reviewing its hard waste collection process, with the new model set to roll out in May next year.<\/p>\n

Council will shift to a booked hard waste collection service, allowing residents to book a collection at a time convenient to them.<\/p>\n

A Borough of Queenscliffe spokesperson said a new model is necessary to address existing problems and provide an improved service for the community.<\/p>\n

“Our goal is to provide residents with greater flexibility and reliability regarding collection days and times, as part of an improved collection service.”<\/p>\n

Each year residents who pay the waste charge will be able to book a collection. Hard waste will need to be neatly piled within the property line in the days leading up to the pick-up.<\/p>\n

While the council reviews the process and explores options, a hard waste collection will not be provided this year. In the meantime, residents can take their hard rubbish to the Drysdale Recovery Centre.<\/p>\n

The council spokesperson said as a result of the new model, the borough hope to achieve greater resource recovery and less dumped rubbish within the municipality.<\/p>\n

“Booked collections are tightly controlled to support correct use of the service and reduce unwanted behaviours.<\/p>\n

“Street presentation is improved with less properties presenting material at any one time and materials are generally removed within a shorter time frame.<\/p>\n

“As collection times and days vary according to residents’ needs, there will be less material across the borough and this will reduce the amount of windblown material, litter and dumped rubbish and subsequently risk to safety and public liability.”<\/p>\n

There are a range of items that can be collected in hard waste including hot water systems, baths, garden furniture, lawn mowers, scrap metal, small car parts and more.<\/p>\n

Car batteries, white goods and e-waste are not included as part of hard waste.<\/p>\n
