{"id":93207,"date":"2024-09-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=93207"},"modified":"2024-09-04T21:53:19","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T11:53:19","slug":"runners-brave-wind-for-bellarine-rail-trail-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/runners-brave-wind-for-bellarine-rail-trail-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Runners brave wind for Bellarine Rail Trail Run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 250 people took part in &#8220;the windiest&#8221; Bellarine Rail Trail Run in its history over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The 21st edition of the event saw athletes take to the trails in 60-70km an hour winds to raise vital funds for Geelong Athletics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/09\/Kerr_10990.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First across the line in the 34km was Peter Kerr.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than $4,000 will be donated towards different areas of the athletics club including for things like equipment, infrastructure and more commonly memberships to either Geelong Athletics or Athletics Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Race director Brett Coleman said the committee was thrilled with the turnout given the conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was unprecedently windy! We&#8217;ve never had it like that in the past, but everyone just took it in their stride.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/09\/thumbnail_IMG_8154_10950.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gemma Berry was the first female across the line in the 17km.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The entry numbers were fantastic this year, showing the conditions didn&#8217;t deter people from taking part.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To get $4,000 was a great effort. It&#8217;ll go a long way in helping some of our members who are struggling financially. It could also help athletes get to higher level competition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>First across the line in the 34km was Peter Kerr, with Jarrod McMullen and Liam Drady finishing in second and third respectively.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/09\/thumbnail_IMG_8183_11056.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 250 people took part in the Geelong Athletics fundraiser.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Cossins, Alex Romaniw and Josh Bourke used the tailwind to run a quick time in the 17km.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of our 17km runners finished in the top three running with a pram! An amazing effort,&#8221; Mr Coleman added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They all really enjoyed the tailwind.
