{"id":93887,"date":"2024-09-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-22T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=93887"},"modified":"2024-09-19T13:47:31","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T03:47:31","slug":"forums-to-give-residents-opportunity-to-meet-bellarine-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/forums-to-give-residents-opportunity-to-meet-bellarine-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"Forums to give residents opportunity to meet Bellarine candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BELLARINE residents will have a chance to hear from their local council candidates at a series of coming forums.<\/p>\n<p>Three forum sessions will give voters the opportunity to understand candidates&#8217; visions and proposals for the future and to ask any questions.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new City of Greater Geelong council structure, the Bellarine is divided into three wards (Connewarre, Murradoc and Leopold).<\/p>\n<p>Each area will elect one councillor to represent in council.<\/p>\n<p>The three &#8220;meet the candidate&#8221; sessions will be held on the following dates:<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday, September 25 \u2013 Connewarre Ward \u2013 Ocean Grove Bowling Club, 7pm<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, September 26 \u2013 Murradoc Ward \u2013 Parks Hall, Portarlington, 7pm<\/p>\n<p>October 9 \u2013 Leopold Ward \u2013 Springdale Hall, 7pm<\/p>\n<p>Portarlington Community Association president Mike Fairweather said he was hoping for a big field of quality candidates across the Bellarine to attend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are many important community issues facing our peninsula, and we need strong advocates over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Returning to single-councillor wards will be a big challenge for the city, and we&#8217;ll be looking for strong performance and governance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Those with any questions about the events can send an email to <a href=\"mailto:comb.bellarine.community.assoc@gmail.com\">comb.bellarine.community.assoc@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Council postal voting packs will be mailed out from October 7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BELLARINE residents will have a chance to hear from their local council candidates at a series of coming forums.
