{"id":93890,"date":"2024-09-22T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-21T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=93890"},"modified":"2024-09-19T12:01:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T02:01:00","slug":"club-honours-dennis-more-with-rooms-naming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/club-honours-dennis-more-with-rooms-naming\/","title":{"rendered":"Club honours Dennis More with rooms naming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ONE of the stalwarts of the Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club has been remembered by having the group&#8217;s clubrooms named in his honour.<\/p>\n<p>Club members, families and their friends packed into what is now known as the Dennis More Rooms on Saturday for their official opening.<\/p>\n<p>Mr More, who passed away in February at the age of 72, was remembered as one of the loudest voices supporting the construction of a formal home for the club, which met for several years in a shed he owned, and a strong supporter of the club&#8217;s activities since its earliest days.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/09\/IMG_5735_72168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The club&#8217;s rooms are named after Leopold developer and landowner Dennis Moore.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Event MC Andrew McLaughlin said the Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club&#8217;s origins could be traced to December 18. 2012, when Mr More &#8211; a noted developer and landowner in the town &#8211; held an open day for the leisure park project in Leopold.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He ran into current president Murray McLaren, and said &#8216;We should start a fishing club&#8217;, and that&#8217;s when the fishing club was born.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He had a vision, and that vision was to create a club for like-minded people that supported the local community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, here we are today, almost 12 years later, to celebrate a really significant milestone in the journey, with that vision now being a reality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/09\/IMG_5730_01292.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members, their families and friends packed into the rooms for the official opening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He referenced the famous line from Hollywood film <em>Field of Dreams<\/em>: &#8220;If you build it, he will come&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To me, that was Dennis,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To have this many people attend today&#8217;s official opening of this magnificent facility is testament to Dennis and his vision for the community\u00a0of Leopold.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/09\/IMG_5725_61991.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club is located close to Corio Bay.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Club vice-president Terry Whitehead acknowledged the many existing and previous club members, supporters and sponsors that had helped make the clubhouse happen.<\/p>\n<p>He said Mr More had widened a canal on his land in 2005 without seeking authority first from the council, which ended up in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dennis would say &#8216;It&#8217;s easy to do things without permission and beg forgiveness later&#8217;
