After his mother was diagnosed with early onset dementia Neighbours star Takaya Honda will once again MC this year\u2019s Geelong Memory Walk and Jog (GMWJ) on April 29.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Taking place at Barwon Valley Park the walk raises much-needed funds to support Dementia Australia who provides invaluable support, education and resources for people living with dementia in and around Geelong, their carers, families and friends.<\/p>\n

Mr Honda said he became involved with the event last year in honour of his mother who is living with younger onset dementia.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mum was diagnosed in her early 50s and since then, I have been looking for ways to positively contribute to raising awareness and funds to help fight dementia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful that being part of a show like Neighbours has given me the platform to be able to speak publicly and encourage others to support the work of Dementia Australia, and to seek help if they or a loved one is living with dementia.<\/p>\n

\u201cMyself and my family have been incredibly grateful for the support and information we have received from Dementia Australia, and I want to do my bit to ensure these vital services continue to be available for people impacted by this disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

Participants can choose to take part in a 2.8km walk, 6km walk or 10km run, and are asked to help reach the GMWJ fundraising target of $75,000.<\/p>\n

GMWJ is a fun event for all ages where speed is not important only participation to ensure the continuation of Dementia Australia\u2019s services.<\/p>\n
