CHILDREN’S Week will see groups and organisations across the Bellarine come together for a range of events and activities.<\/p>\n

The Week is a national celebration, running from October 19 until October 27, recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.<\/p>\n

This year’s events embrace the theme of “children have the right to a clean and safe environment.”
\nAs part of the celebrations, Wildflower Kids, will host a free pop up bush playground on October 27 at the Kingston Reserve in Ocean Grove.<\/p>\n

The free event invites everyone to head along for a morning of outdoor activities including nature play, hut building, bushcraft and more.<\/p>\n

Playgroup organiser Katrina Lumb said the Children’s Week event is a great opportunity for people to get outdoors in nature and see what they do.<\/p>\n

“It’s really important that we do acknowledge that children need time outdoors and children need time to play and children need time to connect with their families and with other children.<\/p>\n

The Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway will host a children’s day as part of the region’s events on October 23.<\/p>\n

Children will ride free throughout the day, from 11am until 2pm, with rides sponsored by the City of Greater Geelong.<\/p>\n

Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway Secretary Brian Coleman said there were two things children enjoy most about the railway, the first one being how close they were to the shore.<\/p>\n

“The kids can bathe quite safely there, and of course the railway’s beside the sea.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got an adjacent playground which they can also play on, so there’s quite a few attractions there for them to enjoy when they come down.”<\/p>\n

Mr Coleman said Children’s Week was an important celebration.<\/p>\n

“Without the children’s support we wouldn’t exist, kids find it very popular and it’s the only one in Geelong, it’s unique for the area.<\/p>\n

Several other events will also take across the peninsula.<\/p>\n
