{"id":94559,"date":"2024-10-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=94559"},"modified":"2024-10-09T21:38:05","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T10:38:05","slug":"students-reconnect-after-50-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/students-reconnect-after-50-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Students reconnect after 50 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAST students and teachers of Queenscliff High School gathered at Seaview House on Friday last week (October 5) to celebrate their 50th reunion.<\/p>\n<p>Those who started high school in 1974 were invited, and spent the evening socialising and catching up.<\/p>\n<p>About 40 guests travelled from across Australia to attend, including three previous teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Reunion organiser Lorraine Golightly said it was great to come together and regroup with people they haven&#8217;t seen since leaving high school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Back in the day there was no Facebook, no mobile phones to keep in touch, so when you left school, it was sort of all over, except for those very close friends.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/IMG_1543_96033.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"829\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guests were able to reconnect with people they hadn&#8217;t seen since high school.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of us have reconnected with some of our best mates from school which was just fantastic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Golightly said the atmosphere in the room was &#8220;a little bit emotional,&#8221; especially when it came to seeing people they had not seen since the day they finished school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve all had very diverse lives, you come out of the same education process, but a lot have worked overseas, changed career paths, and lots of them are grandparents now, so it was lovely to see where everybody&#8217;s been.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/IMG_7981_14504.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Around 40 people, including three teachers, attended the event with plans for a 55th reunion underway.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The past students shared phone numbers and social media details following the event and now plan on having more regular catch ups.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Golightly encouraged those who would like to get in touch with the group to reach out on Facebook through the Queenscliff Highschool Friends page.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for a 55th celebration are already in the works, with the hopes of reconnecting with more old classmates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PAST students and teachers of Queenscliff High School gathered at Seaview House on Friday last week (October 5) to celebrate their 50th reunion.
