{"id":94598,"date":"2024-10-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=94598"},"modified":"2024-10-10T13:22:50","modified_gmt":"2024-10-10T02:22:50","slug":"kelletts-put-pedal-to-the-medal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/kelletts-put-pedal-to-the-medal\/","title":{"rendered":"Kellett&#8217;s put pedal to the medal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A TORQUAY couple have landed on the podium again at the WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Kellett and her husband Brett both tasted success at Stromlo Forest Park in Canberra, with Kate finishing second in the Female Elite division and Brett claiming back-to-back wins in the Male 55\u201359-year-old category.<\/p>\n<p>The biking event saw riders from all over the world compete in a grueling 24-hour race which consisted of 11km loops and 250 metres of vertical riding per lap.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Kellett went into the race as the defending world champion, having won her first title from six attempts in Armidale, New South Wales last November.<\/p>\n<p>She said to get a second place and back up last year&#8217;s result with another great showing made her very proud.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was really stoked with it. Going in as the defending champion came with a bit of pressure, but pressure is also a privilege.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The course itself was just amazing. I was clocking up 37 kilometres an hour down those hills which was pretty awesome!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a super quick start, and I was sitting fifth for the first part, and then after five hours I got in front and tried to hold on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The girl who won (Monique De Abreu) was just incredible. I feel we both just had a fantastic race.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She paid tribute to her husband Brett for claiming back-to-back wins.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/IMG_3568_04833.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kate went into the WEMBO World Solo 24hr Mountain Bike Championships as the defending world champion.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He went into the race in some amazing form and just thrived!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think he finished three laps ahead of his nearest competitor which was an amazing effort.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_94599\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94599\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-94599 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/Untitled-design-19.png?_t=1728526870\" alt=\"Kellett World Champion\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/Untitled-design-19.png 1200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/Untitled-design-19-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/Untitled-design-19-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/10\/Untitled-design-19-768x403.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-94599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brett Kellett powered to the finish line and secured back-to-back world titles in the Male 55\u201359-year-old category.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rightfully so, Ms Kellett said the body was still feeling pretty fatigued a week removed from the 24-hour race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Collectively we rode over 350 kilometres and a climb of 8,000 metres of vertical, so you&#8217;re pretty sore.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness certainly comes through in the days after.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of the race you&#8217;re off the seat upright to get the bike upright and efficient as possible, so it&#8217;s a bit of a toll on your whole body.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;ll be nice to have a bit of time off the bike to recuperate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast rider David Spink finished top six in the Elite Men, while Fiona Matthews claimed a win in the Female 50\u201354-year-old category.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A TORQUAY couple have landed on the podium again at the WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships.
