DREARY conditions didn’t deter the community from heading along to the St George’s Flower show on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Returning for its second year in the Old School Hall, the event drew an attendance of more than 1,500 people over the course of the day.<\/p>\n

Flower show organiser Di Rule said the day was a great success and they were pleased with how things went.<\/p>\n

“Adding the spinning wheel was marvellous and it added to the atmosphere of the family fete and it was really fun, people really
\ngot into it.<\/p>\n

“All stallholders seemed to be quite happy, although they would have liked there to have been no rain.”<\/p>\n

Following the wet conditions, the dog show was moved inside the church.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Attendees enjoyed potted plants, stalls and Devonshire tea while those who entered their flowers and vegetables were in the running for a range of prizes across different categories.<\/p>\n

“We had a great display of vegetables this year, beets and carrots and kale, a cabbage, beautiful red cabbage, orchids, we had one trestle table full of the orchids, it was gorgeous,” Ms Rule said.<\/p>\n

For the first time the flower show was also complimented by a dog show, sponsored by Kerleys.<\/p>\n

Although the dog show had to be moved inside because of the wet conditions, it didn’t stop the fun.<\/p>\n

Dogs of all breeds and ages competed in a range of categories including best owner look-a-like, best fetcher, best talker and more.<\/p>\n

Three dogs were awarded prizes in the Prettiest Girl category.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dog show organsier Donnie Grigau said everybody had a good time at the event.<\/p>\n

“It wasn’t a serious competition, it’s all about getting people together to have a bit of fun.<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot of people down there with dogs and we all love our dogs, we had a puppy and then the oldest dog we had was 16, that was Harry, and he won the best owner look alike.”<\/p>\n

All money raised from the day will be donated to St George’s restoration appeal.<\/p>\n

Ms Rule said a big part of what the show aimed to achieve was about raising awareness of the church and the Old School Hall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
