{"id":94816,"date":"2024-10-17T10:45:51","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T23:45:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=94816"},"modified":"2024-10-16T11:26:54","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T00:26:54","slug":"entrepreneurship-starts-at-the-gordon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/entrepreneurship-starts-at-the-gordon\/","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneurship starts at The Gordon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG business owners Sarah Gross and Cass Mackenzie both began their journey into graphic design and entrepreneurship at The Gordon.<\/p>\n<p>The award-winning design agency, Storyfolk, caters to global clients as the business continues to grow.<\/p>\n<p>Before pursing graphic design Ms Gross explored other creative paths including writing, photography and working for Forte Magazine, saying everything &#8220;clicked&#8221; when she found graphic design.<\/p>\n<p>She was working in retail selling mattresses when she made the change and enrolled at The Gordon, following an unexpected event.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_148042\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148042\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-148042\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/storyfolk-20.jpg_22286.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-148042\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The pair have a strong passion for impactful work making a mark on their community.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;I attended to a customer who collapsed on a mattress and got them straight to hospital where they recovered,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I drove home, I thought, &#8216;what am I doing with my life?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That weekend I submitted my portfolio to The Gordon and by Monday, I was in an interview with design coordinator, Jos\u00e8 Rodrigue. I handed my notice and haven&#8217;t looked back since.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Goss said without the personal investment from The Gordon&#8217;s staff she wouldn&#8217;t be where she is in her career, attributing much of her success to its solid foundation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Gordon gave me more than just skills \u2013 it gave me the confidence to thrive in the fast-paced ever-evolving design world&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ability to learn, grow and adapt is often underrated, but it&#8217;s been key to my success.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With that foundation, I&#8217;ve been able to score work with typography extraordinaire Gemma O&#8217;Brien in Sydney, creative director Ian Anderson, in the UK, and create Storyfolk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_148043\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148043\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-148043 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/storyfolk-06.jpg_22295.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-148043\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The two entrepreneurs met at The Gordon after being introduced by one of the teachers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Gordon also introduced the two friends, with their complimentary skills forming their business, working on projects ranging from branding and digital strategy through to national government non profit initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Their strong passion for impactful work and making a mark on their community continues to shine through as Ms Gross tells aspiring designers and entrepreneurs not to be afraid to dive in and give things a go.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The design industry is always evolving, and the more you step out of your comfort zone, the more you&#8217;ll grow.
