THE Bellarine community is rallying around local Peta Chisholm with a sold-out fundraiser next week.<\/p>\n

Scotchmans Hill will host Pink for Peta on October 30, raising money for the McGrath Foundation while supporting their team member.<\/p>\n

Ms Chisholm is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, diagnosed earlier this year after she started to feel lethargic and lightheaded.<\/p>\n

Following a trip to the doctor, blood tests, breast screens, an ultrasound and a biopsy she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May.<\/p>\n

“When they told me I was going to have a biopsy, I just knew in the pit of my stomach ‘This is not good’,” she said.<\/p>\n

“They basically said the cancer that I had was curable, so that was a positive and from there it was just all systems go, it was appointment after appointment.”<\/p>\n

Ms Chisholm underwent surgery and finished radiation in recent weeks and will now go through medical oncology, taking medication for the next five years.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a very, very big journey and it’s not over yet, I’ve still got another five years of treatment, and I think that’s the biggest thing people don’t realise.”<\/p>\n

Ms Chisholm encouraged everybody to remain vigilant when it came to breast cancer.<\/p>\n

“If I hadn’t trusted my intuition and I hadn’t gone with my gut, I never would have found what I found and if they hadn’t of seen what they saw originally, they would never have found the cancer,” she said.<\/p>\n

“And if I had taken myself off to the breast clinic when I was 50, in another three years, my story would be a completely different story and that’s the scariest part about it.”<\/p>\n

Ms Chisholm said she can’t thank Ruth from Scotchmans Hill enough for her support and for organising\u00a0the fundraiser.<\/p>\n

Guests will be treated to live entertainment by Wendy Stapleton, live auction, food and wine.<\/p>\n
