THERE was a buzz of excitement at Torquay\u2019s Banyul-Warri Fields today (Friday, November 15), as two Matildas dropped in to see the young members of the Surf Coast Football Club.<\/p>\n

Chloe Lincoln and Emily Gielnik from Australia’s national women’s soccer team delighted junior girls teams this afternoon, chatting to the players and participating in some of their games.<\/p>\n

Lincoln spoke to the group about managing stress before competitions, training, travel and more.<\/p>\n

She said seeing how much spending time with juniors meant to them and how many girls were getting involved in the sport now was what she enjoyed most about being out in the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see so many that know the Matildas and know these names that have been around for so long, but since that World Cup it\u2019s just blown up and it\u2019s changed the generation and it\u2019s really exciting to see where it\u2019s headed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gielnik\u2019s advice to the young soccer enthusiasts was to keep playing with their friends, enjoy it, love it and stay active.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something special about being part of a team and going on a weekend and putting the shin pads on, they\u2019re just some of my best childhood memories,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would encourage all girls, don\u2019t worry about the ability that you\u2019re at, just fall in love with the game and enjoy being in the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two Matildas players were joined by Bellarine MP Alison Marchant, MP Gayle Tierney, Corangamite federal MP Libby Coker, Football Victoria’s Mandy McCarter and Surf Coast Football Club players.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Surf Coast visit comes just three weeks ahead of the Matildas game in Geelong on December 7, which will see the team take on Chinese Taipei at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n

Lincoln, who plays for Western United, said the Matildas were really excited to be playing in Geelong and checking out the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can see such a community-based area and a really beautiful part of the world and I think the girls are going to be really excited to come down and get a better look.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gielnik makes her return to the squad after battling through injury. She said it was a great feeling to be back and looked forward to getting out there.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not quite as fit as I would like to be, I\u2019m still building my minutes up, but I\u2019m going to be ready to go in two weeks’ time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to being back in that high-level environment, I thrive in those positions, I feel like I belong there and I\u2019m excited to pull that green and gold jersey back on it I get the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Matildas will also play Brazil at Suncorp Stadium on November 28.<\/p>\n
