THE CFA says last Saturday’s Ocean Grove grassfire is a timely reminder to residents to be prepared for potential bushfire risks this summer.<\/p>\n

A fire broke out in Ocean Grove last weekend, but was contained and brought under control, following ‘leave now’ orders given to residents by local authorities.<\/p>\n

A CFA South West spokesperson said last weekend’s fire was a prudent reminder that a fire of any sort can affect anyone.<\/p>\n

“While there was no major damage to properties, the experience served as a wake-up call, leaving many in the community understandably shaken by how close the danger came to their homes,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Stay alert and prepared – your safety matters!”<\/p>\n

The Wallington Brigade was the first to respond to the rapidly spreading grass fire that ignited off the Bellarine Highway in Marcus Hill.<\/p>\n

The fire threatened Oakdene Estate in Ocean Grove, leading to a Watch & Act message for the community.<\/p>\n

“Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the brigades, they successfully contained the fire to around three hectares,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

This incident was contained with assistance from the CFA, Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria.<\/p>\n

The mercury is expected to get as high as 34 degrees today (Friday, November 22) in parts of Geelong, with the temperature hovering in the mid-high 20s until at least Wednesday, November 27.<\/p>\n
