NESTING boxes have been installed within Point Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve thanks to a collaboration between three local organisations.<\/p>\n
The St Leonards Men\u2019s Shed constructed boxes designed to house a diverse range of animals that require hollows to breed, including micro bats, parrots, kookaburras and pardalotes, while Bellarine Landcare in partnership with Bellarine Bayside installed the boxes within the Reserve.<\/p>\n
The boxes were carefully designed and constructed for each species, with more planned for Lower Bluff in St Leonards.<\/p>\n
Author and founder of the Geelong Field Naturalist group Trevor Pescott consulted on the project, determining the location.<\/p>\n
The boxes will provide invaluable habitat and will improve the biodiversity of the reserve as well as provide an even more enjoyable space for the community.<\/p>\n
Point Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve has strong ties with the community, the Bellarine Bayside volunteering group, and Friends of Point Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve participants who have been carrying out rehabilitation and conservation works for 17 years.<\/p>\n
The group meets every Tuesday between 10am and 12pm (subject to weather) and new members are encouraged to attend.<\/p>\n
