{"id":9804,"date":"2018-05-09T07:57:06","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T07:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=9804"},"modified":"2018-05-11T08:50:09","modified_gmt":"2018-05-11T08:50:09","slug":"sound-doctor-delivers-the-cure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/sound-doctor-delivers-the-cure\/","title":{"rendered":"Sound Doctor delivers the cure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Music lovers will immerse themselves in the translucent sounds of two fantastic acts during The Sound Doctor\u2019s May 26 gig at Anglesea Memorial Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Local Jan Juc singer Lucy O\u2019Grady from Lucy and the Night Sky will strip back the nine-piece band and perform alongside three back up vocalists under the stage name Lucy and the Diamonds; they will be the opening act for highly acclaimed Indie-folk trio Tinpan Orange.<\/p>\n<p>One of Australia\u2019s most loved brother-sister outfits, Tinpan Orange features the ethereal and mesmerising Emily Lubitz at the helm, joined by brother, guitarist Jesse Lubitz and violin virtuoso Alex Burkoy.<\/p>\n<p>The trio\u2019s heavily stylised dark-folk-country music combines the highest levels of song craft with an aching, sweeping romanticism.<\/p>\n<p>Having shared the stage with Martha Wainright, The Cat Empire, The Waifs and Jen Cloher, as well as playing some of the world\u2019s biggest music festivals nationally and abroad including WOMAD, Laneway Festival and Calgary Folk Festival; Tinpan Orange\u2019s music has grown them a fan-base that stretches across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy said after contacting The Sound Doctor, her fellow vocalists Fiona Crawford, Anna Cutler and Kylie Nam were \u201cstoked\u201d to be supporting such a high calibre band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI contacted The Sound Doctor just saying if they ever needed a support act we\u2019d be really happy to do it and then about six months later they got in touch with me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis time it\u2019s a different formation it\u2019s just me on piano with backing vocals. Usually we\u2019re backed by a full band on drums, bass, rhythm guitar and digeridoo but we\u2019re missing all of that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to be having a girl\u2019s night out stripped back we\u2019re really looking forward to it and the being able to sit in the audience and watch afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucy said the male members (who\u2019d been performing together for more than two decades before the girls joined about 18 months ago) were happy to let the girls perform as a quartet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Tinpan Orange are a trio and our full band might\u2019ve been a bit much. We\u2019re really looking forward to the gig, it\u2019s one of those rare opportunities for musos where the music is made really special.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s lighting, effects and great sound the team are wonderful to work with.
