CERAMIC artist and pottery teacher Leanne Doble says the best thing about creating art is the freedom.<\/p>\n

“It’s not about right or wrong \u2013 it’s actually about the process of learning and creating and just enjoying that journey along the way,” she says.<\/p>\n

This is the ethos at the core of her new studio space in Drysdale, which she has named Jericho Pottery.<\/p>\n

It is here, underneath party lights, that Doble plans to host both term classes and weekend workshops for children, teenagers and adults interested in learning how to throw or hand-sculpt clay.<\/p>\n

“It’s not a cheap hobby to do on your own because it requires a lot of materials, but having a studio where people can come and use my space makes it a lot more accessible,” Doble says.<\/p>\n

For Doble, who majored in ceramics at university before transitioning into the role of an art teacher, the studio is the ideal channel for her skill set and brings together both her love of clay and her love of teaching.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“I just love inspiring people to come up with their own ideas, just giving them the skills and the techniques to create something that they’re really proud of,” she says.<\/p>\n

“Whether it’s kids or adults, it’s really beautiful watching them create something and being part of that is pretty special.”<\/p>\n

She hopes the studio will be seen by the community as a fun and relaxed space where they can escape the world for a while, particularly busy mums who may be neglecting their own self-care.<\/p>\n

The studio also features a small retail space in the front, where visitors can purchase Doble’s ceramic creations \u2013 functional vases, lamps and cups that make use of subtle pastel colours.<\/p>\n

Doble has already add NDIS classes to her offering and, as the business grows hopes to provide opportunities for students to sell their work, as well as a gallery space to showcase the work of other local artists.<\/p>\n
