{"id":99466,"date":"2025-02-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=99466"},"modified":"2025-02-13T10:54:58","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T23:54:58","slug":"festival-of-sport-gets-people-hands-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/festival-of-sport-gets-people-hands-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Festival of sport gets people hands-on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KARDINIA Park will offer a variety of activities as the Festival of Sport returns to the region for the March long weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place on March 7, the festival is all about promoting different sports and recreational opportunities in the region by getting people involved and hands-on with activities including kicking, rolling, stretching, jumping and more.<\/p>\n<p>Kardinia Park chief executive officer Gerard Griffin said the free, family friendly event had become a favourite on the Geelong event calendar.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/Festival_of_Sport_S_55965.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Away from the sporting activities, attendees will be entertained by performances and displays.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a unique opportunity to play and have fun on the same oval where the sporting greats play,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our region boasts a rich and vibrant sporting sector. From the traditional, to the non-traditional and the obscure \u2013 we love celebrating them all right here at the heart of sport in Geelong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Participants will be able to go out on the ground at GMHBA Stadium this year, while other activations take place around the venue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/029A7057_15595.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Festival goers of all ages and abilities will be included in the activities.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year&#8217;s festival will showcase the newest areas of the stadium \u2013 the Joel Selwood Stand, Djilang Plaza and Barwon Regional Cricket Centre,&#8221; Mr Griffin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Geelong Sports Museum will be open for free entry during the festival, perfect for anyone who hasn&#8217;t had a chance to explore the local collection and rich stories since it opened last year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Drop in to learn more about golf and the Vic Open at Golf Australia&#8217;s new exhibition &#8216;spotlight on golf&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/Festival_of_Sport_S_07110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Participants will have the opportunity to try a range of activities from different sports throughout the festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Along with plenty of sports to test out, attendees will also be well entertained with performances and displays.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Griffin said this year&#8217;s event has a fresh look and a fresh time, encouraging people to make the most of the timeslot and food trucks on the site.
